When we’re children, the accusation of being in love brings a humiliating smirk. We’re programmed to be ashamed of love. “Oh his mommy gave him a hug!” or “Look who got a Valentines!” No matter the context, love is almost always viewed as an embarrassment. To counter it, masculine energy, picks up the banner of manly things: talking about combat, war, or in polite society – sports. But why? Why is love such a difficult concept?

The problem with love relates to our individual ego. Ego lifts itself as our benefactor, our protector. As love is an expression of expansion towards union with others, it puts the ego in jeopardy. At least to the ego it thinks it is in jeopardy. Squashing the idea of love, and focusing on singular pursuits is a path many people (especially men) travel.

Feminine energy, when introduced into the picture, changes this problem. In general, I think female energy is expansive and embracing of the concept of love. When this is given sway in the heart of male energy the balance creates a whole being.

Love is the eternal bridge. It is the only means by which one touches God. I do not believe that God is moved through pleading or demands. It is through abandonment of self, and supplication to the Higher that God is drawn into the sphere of humanity.

It’s interesting that we live in a society that gives higher movie ratings for sexual content, than for violence and gore. Children can watch shows about war and slaughter, but not so much about human relationships. Perhaps both are too much for children, perhaps teenagers are not yet ready to be exposed to tantalizing imagery of movies – which don’t depict the heavy cost of these elements. Yet in my society one is allowed for children, while the other is disapproved.

This choice to depict violence but not human romance is something of an ancient problem. Many historic and religious texts have been written this way as well. Consider the Christian Bible. How many depictions and stories of romance are in the Bible? How many stories of mass murder, graphic violence or brutality? One can argue that the Bible does in fact have stories about love – that God loved humanity so much He sent forth His Son.

Spiritual love is of the highest caliber. True spiritual love is one where God is worshiped in compassion and truth, without the need for a cause to worship. One doesn’t need “God to save” in order to find love for God. That is the highest worship. It is love for love’s sake. This type of love has no barriers and it loves not only God but all of God’s emanations – both sentient and non-sentient. All creation, all forms made by God are loved equally.

The next highest form of love, I suppose, would be the love that is sourced from a reason. One loves the other because the other first loved the person. This other can be God, or another person. This is more carnal as it depends on a tit for tat type of relationship. The large the scope, the purer this love becomes. Romance between people is of one tier, while the evolution into love of the Higher Self and then love of God are higher tiers. They are higher in their expansive nature.

The setback on love, is when one loves one thing but excludes another. They may love their race, but hate another’s. They may love God, but hate people. This type of thinking is not love at all, but rather desire. It is ego surmounting itself as love. When love is expressed, it is everywhere the same, perfect. Desire on the other hand, sits within the borders of “I” and doesn’t waver into uncharted territory.

Inspiration must be sought at every moment. Whether it be with a pet, a friendship, family, a lover – one must find the inspiring story or direct experience to seed their mental sphere so that their every waking moment can retell a story of love. Not one of tragedy, but one of love. Every story of love has a bit of sorrow, but what must be recounted are the seeds of joy, the aspirations of love itself. Those seeds must then be known as the same seeds that turn towards heaven, blossoming in the light of Divine essence. For love is the eternal bridge between heaven and earth.
